About MJR Motorsport

From a self-built Audi TT to a two-marque GT3 programme — how a home workshop project became one of South Africa’s leading endurance racing teams.

—How We Started

Built in a home workshop

MJR Motorsport began in 2014, when founder Marius Jackson — then 34 — set out to turn a road-going Audi TT into his first race car. Working nights and weekends with help from friends, he prepared the car for its debut roughly a year later at Midvaal Raceway.

Racing as a newcomer meant learning everything at once: the car, the circuits, and the community that makes South African motorsport what it is. Those early outings gave the growing team the reps it needed to sharpen both car and driver, race after race.

The breakthrough came in Marius’s fourth race at Midvaal — a maiden win that opened the door to a run of results over the seasons that followed. Not every weekend went to plan, but every one taught the team something that made the next one faster.

In 2019, five years into competitive racing, MJR stepped up to an Audi R8 LMS GT4 — a turning point that reset the team’s ambitions. Today the squad fields a full GT3 programme, with Marius racing wheel-to-wheel in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II, alongside a growing Porsche GT3 presence built for endurance racing and customer racing alike.
